Rutsiro: Senators visit agricultural and livestock projects
Members of the senate in charge of economics and development in Rwanda visited agricultural and livestock projects in the districts of Rutsiro and Karongi in the Eastern Rwanda.
As part of their work to find how agriculture and livestock can develop people who largely contribute to it, senators discovered that emphasis on cooperation between people and cooperatives is much needed so that farmers can take a big stride in overcoming poverty.
Senator Bizimana Evariste said that visiting these projects is part of the Senate’s role to assess the impact of the government programs to the ordinary citizen. He said that what they have discovered in most places is that ordinary people don’t greatly benefit from government programs yet they are the ones that mostly work hard.
Among the projects visited in Karongi district include tea factories of Gisovu and Karongi, fish farming on Lake Kivu and in Bwishyura sector.
In Rutsiro district, they visited tea plantions, KOPAKAMA cooperative in Mushubati sector and horticulture projects.
