Rwanda : Who are Rwanda’s youngest parliamentarians?
Rwanda’s constitution allows anyone above 25 years to be in parliament as long as he/she passes through legal procedures and appears on the national list of a political party. The national parliament is composed on the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
The 26-member Senate is considered an elders club but when it comes to the Chamber of Deputies, there are relatively young legislators.
Currently, the youngest Deputy is Hon Athanasie Nyinagwaneza, a former teacher for 2 years, who was born on April 10, 1980 (age 32). She went into the House following the 2008 elections.
The second youngest legislator is Hon Jean Thiery Karemera, former administrative assistant at the automobile guarantee fund, who was born on 3 May, 1979.
The following is a list of the youngest members of the Rwandan parliament in the Chamber of Deputies.
As a way of promoting gender balance, many youngest members of parliament are women and Rwanda has been a model for the world in promoting women leadership.
