Nyagatare: Holiday programme to educate youth on cultural norms and values
During holidays, some youth help parents with chores while others become idle leading to bad habits like doing drugs and engaging in sexuality.

To keep youth busy, Nyagatare district organised a holiday programme to educate youth on cultural values and norms.
The programme was started by tree planting on November 22, in Mimuli sector in Nyagatare district.

Educating youth on cultural norms and values is a government initiative
During the event, Rose Mary Mbabazi, State minister in the Ministry of Youth and ICT asserted that educating youth on Rwandan values and norms will prevent youth from bad habits.
The state minister called upon parents to allow children participate in this programme that is aimed to instill discipline in youth.
Apart from imparting cultural norms and values, youth will be trained on other activities like helping the vulnerable residents in the community.
Under the programme, youth will attend twice a week and help parents with home chores during other days.
Claudine Umurerwa, who is in her high school vacation revealed that mobile phones play a big role in getting girls to fall for men leading to unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) like HIV/AIDS.
