    Rwanda trains UN personnel on Security

    Rwanda Peace Academy is conducting a two-week course on Security Sector Reform (SSR) for 20 personnel of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS).

    The Training of Trainers (ToT) that began on 4th February at The Command and Staff College, Nyakinama , northern province is aimed at mainly enhancing the capacity of national staff (South Sudanese) participating in the course.

    In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defense, Brig Gen Jack Nziza stressed the importance of addressing security in its wider aspect.

    “Security is not only a preserve of Governments, but also concerns Civil Society, Organizations and citizens.

    It is an integral prerequisite for democracy, accountability, good governance, administration of justice, rule of law, public safety and development”, he said.

    The Representative of United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Evariste Karambizi said that Rwanda has become a real life laboratory of peace building.

    “Rwanda’s home grown solutions initiatives have been an enlightening example to the rest of the World,” he observed.

    The course that will end on 15 February 2013 was organized jointly by the Rwanda Peace Academy, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research , and the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan – Integrated Mission Training Centre (UNMISS – IMTC)
