Rusizi: Youth urged to embrace national service

Rusizi: Youth urged to embrace national service After the first phase of national youth service, youth in Nyakarenzo sector in Rusizi district have been urged to participate in the second phase of national youth service.

This was revealed during the closing event of the National youth service phase one.

During the event, youth were commended for tremendous work done during 3 months course of the youth service.

The vice-mayor for social affairs in Rusizi district, Mrs. Francoise Nirere asked the youth to be part of the phase two expected to take off after 19th genocide commemoration.

Some of the activities done by the youth include creating new roads 40 kilometres long and building 15 houses for the poor in Rusizi district.

Bernadine Mfurayase, youth leader highlighted that their performance contracts were implemented 100 percent but cited lack of materials as their main challenge during the service.

He asked that in the second phase of the national service, a lot of materials be provided for the easiest execution of the activities.

The vice-mayor Nirere thanked the parents of the youth for allowing their children serve the country through various activities like sensitising residents to embrace mutual health insurance policy.

The army chief in Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts, General Charles Karamba asserted that youth activities in national youth service portray self reliance, which even led to the end of the genocide.

On the other side, youth promised to turn up for the second phase of national service strong enough to participate in the development of the country.
