Neighbor’s eye program commended for reduction of drug use
This was revealed on April 17th 2013 during the meeting that gathered task force for fighting drugs at national level and the district anti-drugs committee to evaluate the role of ‘neighbor’s eye’ program in fighting drug use.
Jean d’Amour Kabera, one of the committee members confirms that there were lots of dry gin cases in Mpanga sector but it’s no longer there after this program was implemented.
Kabera adds that it would be useful if people that have stopped using drugs should be asked to testify and tell other residents the consequences of drugs.
Participants advised that former drug users especially youth should be trained on skills to improve on job creation policy and attain sustainable development.
Charles Kariwabo, head of national team said that ‘neighbor’s eye’ committee is vital in general since drug use has reduced in Kirehe district.
The mayor of Kirehe district, Protais Murayire explains that neighbours eye committee focuses on educating youth to stop using drugs.
He adds that drugs are common in sectors of Kirehe district that neighbor with Tanzania.
