These achievements were celebrated on this Monday the 30th Sept 2013 during the presentation of the district’s 2012/2013 economic year achievements and 2013/2014 performing contracts goals.

Jean Baptiste Habyarimana the mayor of Nyamasheke district on behalf of the district’s residents said they are grateful of the district’s achievement. These are due to the hard work of the leaders, local people and the district’s partners in development.

In 2009/2010, the district achieved its goals on 79percent, in 2010/2011, 89percent 0f its goals were achieved, 2011/2012, 93percent were achieved and in 2012/2013, 94percent of the district’s goals were achieved.

With these achievements, the report by the Prime Minister put Nyamasheke and Gatsibo districts as the exemplary districts for continuously improving in performing contracts.

Innocent Musabyimana the chairperson of Nyamasheke town council says the 94percent points achieved by the district was due to good working relationship between the district administration, the local people and the organizations that partner with the district in its development.

“Although the district is developing steadily, there is a lot to be done to achieve real development. The town council and local leaders should work harder to play a big role in the implementation of the performing contracts” said Musabyimana.

The governor of the Western Province of Rwanda Celestin Kabahizi appreciated the role of Nyamasheke district as well as its partners in its development. The governor asked the district to keep working harder and keep developing.

Governor Kabahizi explained that performing contracts are goals set to be achieved in a given period of time. Even if they are achieved at 100 percent, it does not mean the development is fully achieved and that people’s problems are fully solved.

Governor Kabahizi asked the district to learn from the problems experienced through the journey to development while preparing for the 2013/2014 goals.
