    Bugesera district in EAC awareness drive

    Residents of Bugesera district began celebrating the East African Community week set to raise people’s awareness about benefits (EAC). The campaign started on Monday 11th and will be concluded on Saturday 15th November 2013.

    The Government of Rwanda organized a campaign titled the EAC awareness Week aiming at awakening Rwandans interest towards the ongoing EAC formation.

    During the campaign week mobilizes residents to embrace the EAC and it teaches them about advantages and business opportunities available in the block

    Different leadership levels in Bugesera District are being trained on the EAC especially on four aspects. General market, one customs, one currency and one government that would make the EAC political federation among others

    The EAC training is being carried out by the East African Community Civil Society (EACSOF) that aims at informing people the history of EAC and the benefits of being a member state to this community.

    The benefits of EAC will be explained to the people through short trainings to people’s representatives in different sectors in the ongoing EAC week. EACSOF started off by first training the Youth and women representatives and cooperatives leaders.

    Bugesera vice mayor for finance and economic development Julius Rukundo said that the next groups to be trained on the benefits of EAC include the local leadership committees and traders’ representatives.

    According to Pierre Celestin Mutabazi a resident of Bugesera district, with the benefits derived from this community, it should expand and include all African countries so as to develop the continent with free trade.

    This is the 4th time that the EAC Awareness Week is carried out in Rwanda. This is according to the agreement by the EAC of states Head states leaders in Arusha Tanzania on the 3rd, 12, 2010 that each member state should set aside a week to make its people know of the advantages and benefits of joining EAC.

    EAC is made up of Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya with the population of more than 120 Million people.
