UN military official visits RDF peace keeping mission in Durfur
The Deputy Military Advisor to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations visited 99 Infantry battalion of the RDF (Rwanbatt 41) serving in African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
Gen Foster met the Peacekeepers at super camp El Fasher Darfur on December 7, 2013.
The visit was aimed at familiarizing with UNAMID peacekeepers and sharing mission experience with commanders on ground and it included; analyzing challenges and strength as well as encouraging UNAMID members to deliver the best they can in achieving the mandated objectives.
Gen Adrian Foster thanked Rwandan contingent for their courageous commitment while on UNAMID peacekeeping obligations.
“The way you are organized gives me impression that you have got a stronger Unit,†said Gen Foster.
Presiding over the event was the Force commander Lt Gen Paul Ignace Mella, Police Commissioner Madame Hester Peneras, Force Chief of Staff Brig Gen Dr.Norbert Kalimba, Sector North Commander Brig Gen Meshesha Kidanemariam and deputy Sector commander Col Willy Bagabe among other UNAMID staff officers.
Rwanda has been on the forefront in contributing toward world peacekeeping missions.
Currently, the RDF has 3,000 peacekeepers in Darfur.
