Local residents fetch water during the piped water launch in Nyaruguru district

Officials and development partners in Nyaruguru district, Southern Rwanda, on Wednesday officially launched a number of development projects in the district’s continued effort to provide better service delivery and enhance the social well-being of the population.

The development projects include a two-storey district office building, a four-kilometer public lighting electricity grid, and a 14 kilometer-water pipe that will provide clean, safe drinking water to 9,500 households in Kibeho, Cyahinda and Nyagisozi – three of Nyaruguru district’s 14 sectors.

Officiating at the launching ceremony, Rwanda’s Minister of Local Governance (MINALOC), James Musoni, said that projects such as Nyaruguru district’s new office building “show the vision that the district has to develop and improve on the social well-being of the population”.

“This building means good service delivery and it is a sign of good governance”, Honorable Minister Musoni added.

Nyaruguru district’s Mayor, François Habitegeko, reiterated that the new building facility will translate into good service delivery.

“Our former district office, which used to be for the former Mubuga commune, was built with a capacity to accommodate ten staff. And today with about 50 staff, the office was getting overstretched. But with the new office building, we now have enough space to work freely”, said Mayor Habitegeko.

The new office building, which has of 45 office rooms and four conference rooms, cost over Rwf590 million and took a year and half to complete.
