    Karongi: Local leaders asked to address residents’ issues

    Bernard Kayumba, urged local leaders to resolve residents before going to higher authorities

    Bernard Kayumba, mayor of Karongi district asked local leaders from cell to district level to address lingering residents’ problems

    The call was made on October 1, when district authorities visited Murambi sector in karongi district.

    The mayor said that local leaders in Karongi district must ensure residents’ problems are resolved well to prevent residents from taking them to higher levels.

    Kayumba disclosed that in most cases residents report issues to the authorities but take long to solve them.

    He noted that he received reports that asserts that some residents are not satisfied with how their problems were being handled.

    Bernard Kayumba told local leaders that he intends to break the habit where residents line up to ask President Paul Kagame questions every time he visits Karongi district.

    “Residents you’re ought to know that we represent President Paul Kagame. It’s our duty as leaders to ensure residents’ issues are solved and whoever leader fails to abide will get punished,” he said.

    As a way to tackle the issue, Karongi district administration will put in place committees to resolve issues.

    90 per cent of the problems being solved in governance month are conflicts based on land. Most of them have been in courts of law and others are ended by local authorities.
