President Paul Kagame has through his twitter handle congratulated Valens Ndayisenga the winner of the 2014 Tour of Rwanda, (Tour du Rwanda).

Valens Ndayisenga joined the ranks among Rwandan winners of the lucrative international cycling event which has put Rwandan sports on the global map attracting participants from all over the continent and the globe annually.

“Congratulations to the winner of #TourofRwanda Valens Ndayisenga and thank you to all participants #TourofRwanda2014” the president’s tweet read as posted today November 24, 2014.

The 20 year old teenager used 24 hours 57 minutes and 10 seconds in the 933,8km race that spanned over 8 days. He was followed by teammates Jean Bosco Nsengimana and Joseph Biziyaremye in second and fourth place respectively.

Ndayisenga walked away with over US$ 4,060$ (Rwf2.78m) in prize money for winning the competition as well as the different stages.

Previous Rwandan winners of the competition include: Célestin Ndengeyingoma (1988), Omar Masumbuko (1989), Faustin Mparabanyi (1990), Bernard Nsengiyumva (2001-2005), Abraham Ruhumuriza (2007), and  Adrien Niyonshuti in 2008.

Rwandans have for many years been beaten at their own game and terrain. The victory of Valens Ndayisenga may increase more hope for Rwandans loving the cycling game.
