    Gisagara: Family contract performance yielding results

    Residents of Gisagara district commended performance contract per family, a government programme where households sign performance contracts (Imihigo) known as “the book of development coordination” for fast social development.

    Under the programme, residents are presented with a performance contract notebook (Ikayi y’umuryango) in which their commitments are outlined and every family strives to fulfil the contract targets within a given period of time.

    Each family elaborates a list of targets in the domains of economic development, social welfare and good governance. They set a timeline for realisation and come up with strategies which will guide them throughout the process

    Emmanuel Ndagijimana and his wife Veronique Mukankusi,residents of Rwanzacell, Save sector highlighted that livestock keeping was among the performance contracts they implemented last year 2014.

    “Cooperation and understanding helped us to implement the pledged performance contracts. We purchased a cow and four goats in addition to growing crops,” said Ndagijimana.

    Another resident Odette Niyitegeka from Gikonko sector confirmed that performance contract per family enabled her achieve fast social economic development.

    “I pledged to purchase a cow and contribute for health insurance for the whole family which I achieved. Again, I pledged to purchase mattresses for my family to sleep on and I have implemented it,” she explained.

    Léandre Karekezi, mayor of Gisagara district asserted that performance contract per family improved the social welfare of families and improved on the development of the district as well.

    “Performance Contract per family leads to family development. We commend residents for the achievements and urge them to continue implementing the pledges,” he added.

    Imihigo is a programme modeled from the traditional practice where people present before a leader their targets to be achieved over a period of time, after which an evaluation is conducted.
