Last batch of CAR peacekeepers returns
The Rwanda Defense forces peacekeeping missions have been hailed for doing a great job in Central African Republic.
The remarks were made during the reception of the last group of 142 Rwanda defense forces who managed to return home safely and were received by Gen. Major Frank KamanziMushyoon January 28, at Kigali international airport.
The RDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita said that Rwanda’s mission in CAR was succefully accomplished and the RDF soldiers did their part of bringing a sense of calm and peace during the Mission.
The head of the contingent, Lieutenant Colonel Jean Paul Karangwa said that the Rwandans troops were able to do more than peacekeeping.
He revealed that the forces were able to construct a 700km road, conduct community cleaning activities among other extra humanitarian activities of reaching out to the community needs.
Among the achievements is that Rwandan troops succeeded in bringing calm in areas they control in Bangui and the AU Mission entrusted them with guarding strategic points in the city
Last week, President Samba-Panza awarded medals and certificates to the peacekeepers upon completion of their year-long tour of duty in the country.
Several residents of CAR have given testimony of how the Rwandan troops have left a legacy and foundation of peace that will be used as an example for unity efforts between Muslims and Christians in the future.
In a related development, the first entourage of 142 Rwanda defense forces (RDF) peacekeepers returned to Rwanda last Wednesday January 22 led by Major IssaSenono, and received by Brigadier General AloysMuganga, the commander of the Mechanized division.
The team was also replaced by at least 135 soldiers from RDF, under the rotation program.
