Timely information is paramount. Community policing committees told

The Community Policing Committees (CPCs) have been asked to always provide timely information to Police in order to facilitate detection and prevention of crime.

The call was made early this week during a sensitization seminar in Kirehe District that attracted 250 CPC members operating in the district.

“It’s important that you get more skills, this will lead to the reduction of crime occurrence. But at the same time, you should endeavor to cooperate with Police in a timely manner through the provision of any information that will help Police to combat crimes,” the District Community Liaison Officer, AIP Gahigi Harerimana, said at the seminar.

“The role you have played in maintaining security in communities is commendable and you must continue working hard to ensure that your efforts are not destroyed by criminals in society.”

The executive secretary of Mahama Sector, Kirehe District, Felix Iragaba, urged the CPCs to lead by example and be catalysts of change in insuring safety and security of people living in Rwanda and their property.

Community policing has gained momentum in recent years as Rwanda National Police and community leaders search for more effective ways to promote public safety.

About 140,000 members of CPCs have so far been trained across the country.
