Both the lower and upper houses of Rwandan parliament have today formed a forum that will spearhead the fight against genocide and its ideology in the country.

This is part of the lawmakers’ commitment to bring the fight against genocide in the house of parliament, so that the lawmakers can have their personal involvement in fighting genocide ideology besides passing the law against genocide.

The event was presided over by the senate president, Hon. Bernard Makuza, who said that the formation of the forum is timely and it will put emphasis on the curbing all stages taken in planning and implementing genocide.

The largest part of the forum’s energy will be focused on the last stage of genocide planning and implementation- which is the denial and trivialization of genocide. This is a task that needs all efforts and collective responsibility and action” Makuza said.

During the launch occasion, 82 parliamentarians voluntarily registered to become members of the forum of Rwanda parliamentarians for the fight against genocide and its ideology.

The members also elected forum leaders making Hon. Theoneste Karenzi the president, Hon. Console Uwimana – Vice president and Hon. Ignatienne Nyirarukundo as principal secretary; who susbsquently chaired the first general meeting.

Hon. Theoneste Karenzi, the forum’s chairman said that the team will ensure that it fulfills its responsibilities and an action plan will be laid and made public as soon as possible.

Karenzi also said that the fight against genocide and its ideology leave the lawmakers will no choice but the set up the fight. The fight is our role and we will fight to win this battle. We have no other choice” he stated.
