Bugesera residents say they want Kagame to stay on

    Residents follow term limits discussions

Scores of residents from Shyara sector in Bugesera district have called for the lifting of term limits to ensure the continued leadership of President Paul Kagame beyond 2017.

As part of the ongoing consultations by members of parliament concerning demands of the population for the amendment of the constitution, Shyara sector residents premised their demand on the need to harness the gains made.

Andre Sebazungu, 45, from Shyara Sector said term limits were undemocratic because they deny them the right to choose a leader of their choice.

“I think as Rwandans we have a right for our own destiny. No one should deny Rwandans to let go of our president, we still need him since he is the right man for the job,” he added, urging the MPs to expedite the process to ensure that the legal impediments are removed.

Clever Sezibera, also a resident from Shyara sector said that “if you trace the history of Bugesera also explained that “as people of Bugesera we suffered a lot under previous regimes. It was until Kagame rose to power that we started living a meaningful life”.

Veneranda Nyirahirwa, who led a team of MPs to Shyara sector in Bugesera district, said the discussions showed democracy, noting that residents were fully active in all consultations that they have been to.
