Kagame In USA For Special Olympics
President Paul Kagame arrived in Los Angeles, USA, at 3pm local time, to attend the Special Olympics opening ceremony and forum on inclusive development.
While the president attends the world’s largest sports and humanitarian event of the year, Rwanda will be represented by five athletes in Aquatics, Athletics, and Half Marathon.
They include Providence Umuhoza in aquatics,
Alice Mukamana in athletics(Half Marathon) and Donat Muragijimana in Half Marathon
The games that began today will end on August 2, 2015, with 6,500 athletes and 2,000 coaches representing 165 countries, along with 30,000 volunteers and an anticipated 500,000 spectators.
The event is taking palce at Memorial Coliseum, site of the 1932 and 1984, offcialiated by the US First Lady, Michelle Obama.
The World Games, founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, are watched on television by millions of viewers across six continents.
The venue hosts more than 500,000 spectators including world leaders, celebrities and other dignitaries.
