Police destroy illicit drugs in Rwamagana
Police on Thursday destroyed a variety of drugs and illicit brews worth 2.5m in Rwamagana District, in part of nationwide campaigns aimed at protecting the country against the effects of drug abuse.
The destroyed items that included marijuana and Kanyanga (crude gin) were confiscated in a police operation in conjunction with district authorities.
Â The drugs include illegal local gin, Kanyanga and marijuana worth Rwf2.5 million. The public exercise was attended by hundreds of area residents and students.
IP Emmanuel Kayigi, the spokesperson of Police in the Eastern Province hailed the good partnership the police enjoys with the citizens in crime prevention.
“Police is working together with authorities in Rwamagana to kick drugs out of the district and to rehabilitate those who are addicted to drugs and those who are drug dealers. Residents should also continue fighting against this vice by collaborating with Police through the provision of timely information about such dealings,” he said.
Â Regis Mudaheranwa, the vice mayor for finance and economic development commended RNP for its successful anti-drugs operations and urged residents to work together in safeguarding the achievements of their district.
He also called upon residents to partner with security organs by availing credible information that lead to the arrest of any notorious drug dealers who refuse to abandon the illegal trade.
