Burundian Police Hands over an alleged murderer to Rwanda
The Rwanda National Police on Saturday received a Rwandan suspected murderer, handed over by the Burundian Police, Rwanda police sources have revealed.
The hand over was done in Nyaruguru district, at Akanyaru {boarder of Rwanda and Burundi}.
Jacques Shumbusho, 23, is a prime suspect in the assassination of Colette Munyana 19, who was murdered on March 12, 2012.
Shumbusho was detained at Kayanza police station in Burundi, for three months until he was recently handed over.
Shumbusho was deported after completing transfer procedures with Interpol. He had sought refuge in Burundi in a bid to escape justice.
Shumbusho is currently detained at Nyaruguru Police station while the investigation continues.
Rwanda national police spokesman Superintendent Theos Badege has said that there is no safe haven for criminals.
“We are thankful that international offices of Interpol have worked hand in hand in the region and around the world to ensure that criminals are brought to justice,†said Badege.
