Rutsiro: religious leaders advised to emphasize on elections
The National Electoral Commission (NEC) needs religious leaders to always sensitize their followers to participate in the prepared electoral programs.
This is one of the resolutions reached after one day training of religious leaders prepared by NEC in Rutsiro District.
Mathias Mucyo a member of civil education committee in Rutsiro district said that this training was meant to train religious leaders about democracy and good governance through elections so that they teach their followers about them as they have many people in their congregations who understand easily their teachings.
Those who were trained said that the training was very much needed because they will be making the electoral programs be known by their followers so that they may play a role in electing their own leaders.
Isae Uwimana from EPR Church in Suri and who had attended this training said that he will be sensitizing people to elect their leaders because when they elect the leaders of their choice, they feel at ease with them and participate with them in government projects.
Odette Mukamugema one of the leaders of A.E.B.R Church said that the role of religion in development is to help people understand their rights in elections and that is what he is going to do so that people will be sure of what they are doing by the time of elections.
This training was attended by 22 religious leaders from Rutsiro district and was prepared by NEC in a way of explaining to people their rights and responsibilities in elections.
