Teachers asked to avoid teaching segregation among pupils
Mentors of Runda Isonga group of schools (former Runda primary school) have been asked to avoid teaching divisionism to pupils, one of the causes for the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.
This was resolved during the event to remember teachers and pupils of Runda primary school who died in 1994 Tutsi genocide.
The commemoration event that was held on June 28th 2012 at this school gathered pupils, teachers, residents of Kabagesera cell and some genocide survivors that lost their relatives.
Emmanuel Bizimana, a father of three Runda pupils that died in genocide asked teachers of Runda Isonga group of schools to never teach children what can lead to hatred and result into another genocide like in 1994.
Bizimana adds that 1994 Tutsi genocide had earlier on been planned in schools. Tutsi pupils and students in schools were always asked to stand up so that Hutu pupils know the difference.
“My children used to tell me that their teacher could make them stand up and say “this is how Tutsis look likeâ€, explains Bizimana
Bizimana expresses: “Your profession is trusted by parents in education and behaviours. Your job becomes your blessing when done well, because parents leave their children in your hands.â€
Manassé Sindayigaya, FARG representative in Runda sector thanked teachers and pupils for organizing that event because remembering will always make Rwandans strive to build a brighter future basing on history.
During this first event to remember 31 pupils and 5 teachers that lost their lives during genocide, Emmanuel Munyaneza; Runda Headmaster assured the participants that it will always happen every year, so that pupils who come to this school know the history and fight ideologies.
