Karongi: It’s been 18 years of resurrection- Mayor Kayumba
Karongi District Mayor Benard Kayumba has remarked that 50 years of Independence and 18 years of liberation should leave Rwandans with a lesson of how far they have come and where they are going.
In his speech during Independence Day celebrations, Karongi mayor emphasized that Rwandans were dead but have been resurrected for 18 years.
Army officials, Police authorities and district administrators joined Gishyita residents in celebrating 50 years of Independence and 18 years of liberation.
Â
Mayor Kayumba said: “the first lesson is the change from bad history to building a bright future like how RPF refused to build the country in bad governance that never thought of residents’ welfare and development. However, a lot has been achieved in these 18 years of good governance compared to the effects of bad politics before liberation.â€
Colonel Ludovic Mugisha, leader of Battalion 204 in Karongi district asserts that depending on the problems caused by colonialists, it has taken Rwanda a lot of energy to be where it is now.
“Colonialists divided Rwandese for easy rule but Rwandese followed that rule because of ignorance and killed their brothers. However, time came and Rwandans refused to stay divided but they rose and fought ignorance. Now they have education, medical care and development activities where the world comes to see the achievements of the Rwandans efforts,†Colonel Mugisha adds.
