Rwanda : Focus to achieve more, police chief tells force
The Police Chief Emmnauel Gasana has called the police force to aim higher in their performance.
Gasana made the call while officiating at the meeting to assess the performance of the institution, review progress and plan a way forward.
The police chief, who acknowledged that the force had made notable strides this year, urged them to aim higher.
“These achievements are a pride to the institution at the national and international level. We should keep focus and work hard to achieve even more,†said Gasana.
The Police force boasts of winning the United Nations award for its outstanding contribution towards the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) and being recognized for establishment of Isange one stop center where GBV victims are offered a combination of medical and legal assistance.
The force’s sports teams won several sports trophies. The handball team scooped the liberation cup after beating NUR in the finals. The league defending champions are currently leading the 2012 National handball league table. The team is set to represent Rwanda in Africa’s champions’ handball league competition.
Also though they lost to arch rivals APR FC in the soccer peace cup finals on July 4,2012 finishing the league in second position Police FC is set to represent the country in Orange confederations cup after APR were crowned champions in both competitions. It will be the first time that Police FC competes in one of the continents leagues.
It is on this note that Gasana urged Police officers to triple their efforts so as to meet their targets. Other areas discussed included customer care, values, public order and law enforcement, force discipline as well as training.
“If we stay committed to perform our duties and uphold the readiness we have we will be able to serve people living in Rwanda even better.â€
He further encouraged close collaboration with the public noting that it was the assured way to produce expected results especially reduction in crime.
