Rwanda : Nsekera urges Rwandan women to aim for managerial roles

Rwanda | Nsekera urges RwandanFifa’s executive committee member Lydia Nsekera has called on Rwandese women to aim for managerial positions in football federation as a way of developing women football in the country.

Nsekera made the remarks on Wednesday as she closed the second day of the Com-Unity seminar aimed at creating opportunities for, and improve awareness of, women’s football across the country.

Over 80 participants from the Ferwafa, government agencies, non-government organisations (NGOs), women’s football clubs, media and sponsors are attending the four-day seminar.

The second day of the seminar highlighted the role of the media to create a positive image of the women’s game, and the role of the football association, clubs, coaches and players in promoting women’s football.

Nsekera, president of the Burundi Football Association, said, “If we are to really develop women football in Rwanda, we need women in decision-handling positions of the football federations,”

Currently, none of the Primus league clubs are represented by women and this is why Nsekera believes that it will be hard for women football to develop if none is among the executive committee of Ferwafa representing or standing for any of the top clubs in Rwanda.

“I urge you to associate yourself with a club like APR, Police and others such that fellow  male counterparts can vote you into office and this is one way that you will be able to make decisions for women football,” added Nsekera.

The FIFA Women’s Football Com-Unity Seminar ends today with Ferwafa leadership set to meet with FIFA representatives to discuss recommendations and next steps, and agree on when to submit an action plan for the way forward on women football within the next 30 days.
