Rwanda : Political parties not serving local people interests

    rwanda

Political parties are not representing the local people’s interests in the country. This is according to findings by the Institute of research and dialogue for peace (IRDP).

Dr. Nasoon Munyandamutsa, a member of the institute says huge steps have been taken by the population to understand political parties.

“From our research and Rwanda’s background, locals have argued politicians are responsible for incidents such as genocide and locals, claim political parties still do not serve public interest,” Prof. Pierre Rwanyindo Ruzirabwoba, head of IDRP institute says.

Officials of the institute were before the senatorial committee of political and good governance to discuss their research findings.

Senator Tito Rutaremara inquired if the institution had conducted a survey as well on how the civil society including churches represent their interests.

The study by the Institute of research and dialogue for peace was based on good governance. Rwanda currently boasts of ten fully operational political parties.
