On August 3rd 2012, different leaders were trained on the issue concerning setting up children’s forums from village to the district level.

Executive secretaries of sectors, sector leaders in charge of social affairs, representatives of National women’s Council (NWC) and National youth council NYC), volunteers of National Electoral Commission (NEC), worker in charge of Gender and Family promotion, good governance officials and others turned up for the training.

During the meeting, participants were explained that children’s council is expected to start in August 2012 when children are in their holidays.

Adolphe Kanamugire, in charge of social affairs in good governance in Nyamasheke district explained to the participants to value this program and make it their own.

Kanamugire adds that more effort is needed to make to make this plan successful and all children forums be represented by able children.

Children’s forum aims at giving children opportunity to express themselves through airing out their ideas and participate in the projects meant for them, their country and their ideas to be given consideration.

The program also intends to promote what is more important to children according to the rules set by the ministry of gender and family promotion to govern the forums.

The ministry of gender and family promotion says children forums at all levels should have administration committee and the general parliament is made up of children between 6 years and 17 years of age at village level.

ON the administration committee, there must be a disabled child representing others on every level and 30 percent is meant for female children.
