The Kanombe Military Hospital (KMH) in partnership with the Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS) is in a drive to treat a total of 3, 400 inmates with eyes problems around the country. The inmates will receive the treatment in the period of forty-two days.

Information from RCS indicates that the operation will begin with the Kigali central prison before spreading o other prisons. The treatment will include correcting all eye problems and provision of glasses for those in need of them.

According to the Military Hospital Management, the doctors will be sent to the prisons to carry out the treatments instead of the patients coming to Kigali.

In his remarks at the official opening of the operation at the Kigali Central Prison, the RCS Commissioner Paul Rwarakabije welcomed the help from the military side which he said shows the good working relations between security organs.

The Director of the Military Hospital Dr. Ben Karenzi said that the treatments will include severe blind cases and eye cataract cases that will need to be corrected through operation.

Desert International Charities is also partnering in this operation through the provision of materials. Kigali centeral prison which is the starting point has over 600 eye cases alone.
