Rwanda : Women to gain more from the new USAID project

rwanda mapThe new US agency for international development, Rwanda family health project on family planning is intended to benefit more the women especially those in the rural areas. This is a project that was launched here this week by the ministry of health and its main aim is to increase the use of community based family health services in Rwanda.

This is a project that is going to be run for 5 years and it will focus on increasing the use of family planning, reproductive health, maternal and neo-natal and child health,HIV/AIDS and nutrition which things do affect women and children mainly in the country.

The head of maternal and child health at the ministry of health,Dr.Fidele Ngabo says, this was going to help women since they were going to get health services from skilled personnel and therefore they will get better services, both the women and their children, hence continue  reducing on the high mortality rate that has been on in the country.

“This is one project that is going to benefit the women and children a lot since they will not have to walk distances for health services , “says Ngabo, adding on that still the services they will be getting will be of good quality.

Yvette Mukakalisa one of the participants on the launch of the project says she is very happy for this project since women are going to get good health services and which will be close to them and she believes its going to be very helpful especially to women in villages who cannot access family planning health services easily and therefore end up giving birth unnecessary.

Many women are going to have access to family planning services, maternal health, and HIV/AIDS services, and also this program will help strengthen the management of community based services hence equal supply of the services to every one in the areas selected.

According to the permanent secretary in ministry of health, the project is going to also improve health facility management system that is the financial, data management, human resource and also the clients flow hence easy access by every woman.

This is a project that comes and runs directly with the ministry’s health priorities, and therefore it is hoped that it’s going to help everyone in the country but most especially the women and the children in Rwanda.

It will work according to the ministry’s guidelines to be more effective and with this; USAID believes it’s going to help other sponsored projects by the USAID, to achieve their set goals.

Since women are the key players in the use of water and in the provision of hygiene to their families, this project is going to help them in achieving these, through the provision of safe water and hygiene. This in the end will help women keep healthy families and therefore not spend money on fighting disease related to the two.

Diseases like malaria, tuberculosis among others will be addressed as this project starts its work here, hence a healthy Rwanda.
