A decision to use all potentials in Gicumbi District for developing 49.3 percent of its residents’ social welfare has been emphasized in recent days in a move to combat poverty in the area, according to authorities who say it is the main objective.

The 2012/2013 economic year performing contract towards vision 2020 focuses on the welfare of residents as Alexandre Mvuyekure the district mayor remarked on the 3rd.Sept.2012.

This will be achieved through VUP project that is keen on working on poverty reduction in rural areas and it is ready to support this district promote its very poor residents.

Vision Umurenge Programme (VUP) works in very poor sectors in Rwanda and it gives employment opportunities to the poor in developmental projects like in road constructions, making terraces, and others are taught to make projects that can develop them.

Some are given physical work and others are given credits and supports and some of these families that are supported by this project are no longer in the poor classes according to Ubudehe social stratification.

Gicumbi district will not work with VUP program only but with other non government projects to improve people’s social welfare by teaching them to create projects that can give jobs to many as a way to achieve the performing contract of taking people out of the poverty line.
