Kamonyi: Local Leaders ready for Performance Plan Evaluation
In press conference local leaders of Kamonyi district held on 8th December 2011, District Mayor Rutsinga Jacques said that what has already been done shows that they are going somewhere ant that they are waiting on what will come out of the Performance plan Evaluation of 2011.
Journalists talked about the district being ranked number 20 in the performance plan evaluation for the past two years on which Rutsinga answered by saying that a lot was done especially in buying medical insurance (mituelle) which is now at 91% in this area.
Also, Mayor Rutsinga explained that Kamonyi district came first to complete the basic 12 program buildings and that residents so much responded to “Umurenge SACCO†services (A financial institution established at every sector to increase financial access services to the citizens).
However, the district faces the problem of clean water shortage which the Vice Mayor in charge of Finance and Economic Development Uwineza Claudine assured that three more water pipes are being constructed and soon water will be available in plenty.
On the problem of poor murram roads due to heavy rains, Mayor Rutsinga Jacques says heavy vehicles heading to stone and sand mines pass on this road but the local leadership is planning to join efforts with residents in clearing this road.
In last year’s performance plan evaluation, a problem of poor feeding was evidenced in Kamonyi District. The Vice Mayor says that the problem was seen in Mugina and Runda but a program to teach residents on good food preparation through health workers in villages was put in place which has reduced bad eating to 0.17% according to the reports.
On youth unemployment, Vice mayor says that youth formed a cooperative in Kayenzi and registration is being done so that youth are trained on development project making in next year’s performance plan.
