Rwanda | RUSIZI: Rusizi celebrates International Literacy day
The international Literacy day was celebrated on the 14th.Sept.2012 in Rwanda and in Rusizi it was celebrated in Butare sector, one of the 18 sectors in Rusizi district that has a great number of illiterate people; the theme of the day was “let’s fight illiteracy upholding the culture of peace”.
Butare sector is one of the most illiterate sectors in the district and historically marginalised. Certificates were given to 58 adults who learnt how to read, write and count.
The sector’s resolution is to keep on encouraging and sensitizing illiterate adults to join adult schools and all children to go to school to as Placide Sibomana the executive secretary of the sector explained.
Adults who were given certificates for enrolling in adult schools appreciated this service saying that it was shameful as they moved around looking for people to read to them important documents but now they can read and write. They called upon their fellows to join adult schools and fight illiteracy which is one of the sectors’ resolutions.
