Nyamasheke: Local leaders speak out on how people can contribute to good governance

    Nyamasheke Local leaders

As the good governance month draws to conclusion, residents have been repeatedly told to participate in good governance. We talked to some leaders from the Western Nyamasheke District to gather their views on how they would want residents to take part in the good governance process.

Samuel Mushimyimana is a leader in Gihombo Sector; he says the first step for citizens to take part in good governance is to understand leadership.

“Citizens must first of all understand that the leadership belongs to them, they should not fear to speak out their problems because good governance means leadership that listens to the people,” he said. Mushyimyimana also called for mutual respect between leadership and the people.

Bosco Uwiringiyimana the Executive Secretary of Nyarusange cell said that what is needed is for the people to implement government programmes and to take part in solving their own problems.

“People should endeavor to attend local council meetings because it helps them to air out their views and also help to solve the various problems in their communities,” said Uwiringiyimana.

For Denise Musengimana the in charge of Social Affairs in the Western Province while visiting Nyamasheke district called upon the people to uplift good governance in Rwanda. She requested the public to understand all the levels of leadership and their obligations.
