To tighten the security, measures have been taken to follow up poor security reports on lake Kivu ports due to crossing Congolese into Nyamasheke district.

This was resolved on December 18th 2012 during the security general meeting in Nyamasheke district. Participants said security is tight but measures should be taken to tighten it more.

During the meeting, security of the ports at Lake Kivu neighboring Nyamasheke district was tackled. These ports are used by Congolese who come from Ijwi Island to attend the markets.

Though they are not authorized enter and exit posts, policies were put in place to govern the ports so that whoever uses them is registered.

The mayor of Nyamasheke, Jean Baptiste Habyarimana asserts that follow up on the ports is among the measures to work with residents in keeping security.

Nyamasheke district borders with RDC especially Ijwi Island, and Congolese come to this place to attend the markets using different ports known to local leaders.

The meeting attracted the mayor of Nyamasheke district, Jean Baptiste Habyarimana, Police and Defense officials, all sector executive secretaries of Nyamasheke and other security concerned authorities in the district.

The Chief Inspector of Police in Nyamasheke district, CIP François Segakware and Chief of Defence in Nyamasheke and Rusizi districts, Colonel Jean Bosco Rutikanga also confirmed that there is security stability in this place but they should keep on guard.
