Prime Minister Habumuremyi tours ID Project and FARG
Rwanda’s Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi visited the National ID project offices located in Kimihurura, Kigali City. The Premier was briefed on how the project operates and the services delivered.
During the suprise tour, Habumuremyi asked the project to make a study to integrate ID cards with medical insurance RAMA cards, social security cards and Rwanda Revenue Authority TIN number.
The Premier was informed that the project has released close to 5.7 million electronic cards, with more 12,000 under production for foreigners living in Rwanda. The Prime Minister was also briefed on the production of a new smart card.
The Coordinator of the Project, Patrick Nyamulinda said the new smart card will have other documents such as driving license and passport, medical insurance and others for those who have them.
The Premier asked the institution to integrate other services such as medical insurance RAMA, social security and Rwanda Revenue Authority number for those who have them.
The development according to the project will relieve the public to carry many cards, risking misplacement.
From the National ID project, the Premier proceeded to offices of the fund for Genocide survivors, FARG in Remera in a bid to see how service is provided, and to see challenges met and advice needed to improve.
A big number of questions that was presented by students to the Prime Minister were lack of transfer documents, and the materials that delays to be given on secondary schools.
The Executive secretary of the fund illustrated that 144.000 genocide survivors benefit from Mutuelle de santé, 23.000 get material support, 373 houses are to be constructed for, and 2000 cows have been given in the last year.
He also mentioned a poor capacity of granting scholarship for the S6 who finished with low marks, because among 12 thousand who applied only 1600 one thousand and six hundred have benefited from university scholarships.
The Premier advised them that together with Ministry of Education they look on how to provide technical trainings in Technical Vocational Training Centres for these who have completed the secondary studies.
He also urged them to decentralise all the services so as to avoid queue and delay in providing whether psychological, moral and material support to the Genocide survivor who are in need.
