Gisagara residents play a role in maintaining security
Local leaders after a seminar on security issues
Through a number of security seminars organized by government’s security organs in the District of Gisagara, citizens have acknowledged the benefit of participating in maintaining their own security.
Security matters have become a ‘culture’ in Gisagara district, and security issues are discussed at every meeting local meeting. Local leaders take it to themselves to remind the residents to be vigilant on individual security of the need to maintain peace in the community.
They have a popular saying which says buri muntu agomba kuba ijisho ryamugenzi we (every citizen should be responsible of his/her neighborhood’s security).
Fruits of such teachings have begun showing up. One resident, Mukamazimpaka, Save Sector testifies that through such initiatives, neighbors twice rescued her from being attacked by thugs in the area.
“I screamed and screamed when my door was being hit in the awe hours of the night. Police forces could not listen to my alarm since I reside a bit far from their station. Fortunately, as I screamed people in neighborhood heard my voice and joined me in threatening the thugs compelling them to run away before entering into my houseâ€, a happy Mukamazimpaka narrates.
