District awards 2011
The fourth annual good governance competition was organized by the Office of the Ombudsman as part of several activities organized during the 2011 anti-corruption week. Gisagara district outclassed other districts countrywide and scooped the national trophy after emerging the best for the second time.
In 2009, the district claimed the first position and walked away with a cash prize of 1,000,000 Rwandan francs. Before in 2008, Gisagara district took the third position plus a cash prize of 500.000 Rwandan francs.
This competition organized by the office of the ombudsman awards districts basing on excellent records of decentralization, fighting corruption, justice and quality service delivery.
Gisagara District was chosen to host the function in recognition for the establishment of innovative strategies to combat corruption and to promote justice. The establishment of a free hotline and local committees, all used to denounce corruption practices have been appreciated. The approach called “Impuruzaâ€, putting in contact the informant and relevant authority  about potential cases of corruption without the knowledge of those involved in this unhealthy adventure. It should be recalled that the same district, was the first in 2009 for having initiated and led laudable efforts in the fight against corruption.
In a bid to provide better services, the district has registered all cells in the user group phone call making it easier and free to provide information from the district to the cell level.
