The problem of water shortage has been affecting local residents living in sectors of Busoro, Ntyazo, Muyira and Kibilizi. The official in charge of infrastructure in Nyanza district Eric Gatera attributed the problem to scarce water tanks.
He revealed that so far 70 water tanks have been set up in different sectors as part of solving the problem.
These public water tanks will save people from walking long distances in search of clean water since they have been extended to their communities.
The construction of water tanks was possible thanks to the partnership with PENEAR project.
The plan has already been finalized and the project of distributing water to different places of Nyanza district will cost one billion and four hundred thousand Rwandan francs.
The Head of infrastructure in Nyanza district said that if all goes well, the year 2012 will end with every citizen in Nyanza district having access to clean water.
As a way of protecting those water tanks, committees in charge of taking care for these water tanks will be selected and tasked toprovide information on how they are used by the local populations.
