Rwanda : People should claim their rights for good services

The week of providing good services (good service week) is meant to encourage service providers and their clients to know their roles and rights so that the habit of corruptions is totally discouraged.

    Kamonyi authorities at the ceremony

The week was officially launched on 20th February 2012 in the cell of Nyarubuye, Rugarika sector, Kamonyi district. The Mayor to the district Jacques Rutsinga has urged government employees, those of private sector and self employed ones to provide their services with discipline and integrity.

The week of providing good service will be dedicated to educating people who receive services to make them understand that being explained to and given a good service is their right. The mayor explains that this will reduce the number of people who have been paying money so they can be offered a service. “People should not pay for their right of being offered a service” Rutsinga remarked.

The week of good service is aimed at changing service providers mind set so they can change how they offer their services and making those that receive services understand that receiving a good service is their right.

People who had attended the ceremony of launching the week of providing good services say some authorities at certain level don’t give them a warm welcome like at the health center of Masaka where health workers do not give them attention whereas certain village leaders ask for money before they can solve certain issues.
