    We need to double our efforts towards development-Nyamagabe Mayor

    In a meeting with all Nyamagabe district’s local leaders, the District Mayor Philbert Mugisha told attendees to accelerate their effort in order to uplift citizens from poverty, on 22nd February2012.

    Mugisha said “Much as our district is still among those Rwandan districts with larger statistics of poverty, our districts has noted some progress in development since 2006”

    Nyamagabe is seen to have moved upwards from poverty by 2% following the last five years where 75% people were below poverty line in 2006.

    Rwanda: We need to double our efforts towards

    Mugisha added that “we need to double efforts in order to attain our development targets the fact that our soils are infertile and need manure to produce more harvest should not slacken our efforts instead we need to double our efforts towards work, such that where other are making one step, we should make.”

    According to Rwanda National Statistics, 73% of Nyamagabe residents are below poverty line with 40% being in absolute poverty. Comparing to the countywide statistics where 40% Rwandans are below poverty line and 5% in absolute poverty.

    Nyamagabe also leads in certain sectors like Education where 95% of all young kids attend and finish primary school contrary to the Countrywide’s 91%.  Nyamagabe also leads in hygienic conditions with 90.5% of its residents having cleaning materials and access to clean facilities.

    Nyamagabe’s statistics slackens when it gets to statistics of teenagers who attend and finish secondary school, which are at 14.7% compared to the Countrywide’s 20%.
