Man jailed over bribery
A 23 year old man Gentile Rugwiro is detained at Nyamirambo police station for bribing a police officer with 70, 000 Rwandan francs.
Rugwiro was arrested while bribing the police officer on January 07 during the Driving license tests which were being conducted at Gakinjiro in Nyarugenge district.
Rugwiro said that after emerging successful in the parking test while waiting for the car balancing test, he tried to give 70,000 francs to a policeman who bravely refused and took action as taught by Rwanda national police.
Police Spokesman Superintendent Theos Badege says; “We want to fight the culture of corruption by sensitising citizens that good service delivery is their right, for people failing in driving license tests, corruption is not the solution they should wait for the second chanceâ€.
In line with the government’s fight against corruption, the National Police of Rwanda has held several anti-corruption campaigns aimed at sensitizing all stakeholders on the dangers and effects of corruption.
Rwanda national police has been ranked by transparency international the less corrupt institution in the great lakes region.
Rugwiro had been a shopkeeper before embarking on the search for a driving License to become a car driver.
