Gisagara: District Mayor holds a press conference
On 02nd March 2012, the leader of Gisagara district, Leandre Karekezi held a press conference with journalists based in his district.
The press conference comes after a few days when the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda revealed that residents of Gisagara living below the poverty line shrunk from 70% to 59% within the last 4 years.
“We still have a long way to go, given the fact that a number of our residents are still below the poverty line. We don’t have to slacken in development, we plan to move fast.†Said the district mayor
The Mayor also briefed the team of journalists about some of the district’s ongoing projects, where he mentioned:
Introduction of mechanized agriculture and encouragement of farmers to plant the district’s researched and chosen plant in order to maximize both harvest and profits; and:
Rural electrification, -power a number of villages that still lacked power in order for their residents to engage in more modern businesses.
The mayor adjourn the conference by calling upon Gisagara residents to have a paradigm shift on their take of the government’s projects, noting that such projects are theirs and not anyone else’s.
