    Rwanda | Mayange: 500 kitchen gardens to be developed

    The leadership of Mayange and Bugesera sectors has embarked on building 500 kitchen gardens in March, a month dedicated for women and girls in Bugesera district.

    Gerard Gakwandi, Biryoga village leader in Kibenga cell reveals that there is a team of 25 people who build kitchen gardens in Mayange.

    “We have made26 gardens today and grown seeds of cabbages, carrots, egg plants and green vegetables in them,” adds Gakwandi.

    Old Natalie Mukarubayiza, kitchen garden beneficiary has a malnourished child whom she confirms she is going to cure with the help of “akarima k’igikoni”.

    Minister Monique Mukaruriza who had attended the event to make kitchen gardens thanked women who participated in teaching their fellow women on how to prepare balanced foods.

    She asked uturima tw’igikoni beneficiaries to make good use of them in order to eradicate malnutrition.

    Mayange health centre leadership reveals that in the last four months thirteen malnourished children were hospitalized but eight of them are still undergoing treatment at this centre.

    Francois Nkurunziza, executive secretary of Mayange sector emphasizes that together with community health workers, they are going to eradicate malnutrition in this sector.
