About 104 students who have been elected as representatives in Kamonyi district students’ Union are being trained  by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) on the political responsibility.

    Rwanda School youth on training

Those who are being trained were told to call upon their fellow students to fulfill their responsibilities in the development of the country.

The youth is the future of the country and that is why NEC has to give them the necessary knowledge on the importance of elections and good governance. This helps them to understand the responsibilities of the involved parties, the leaders and those who are led.

Maurice Musoni the coordinator of NEC in Kamonyi and Muhanga districts said that these students are studying political education in their schools but they teach them about what is happening at the moment. And this makes them review good governance in their schools.

These students said that this training is going to help them to be careful with everything they are doing. Esperance Nyiranzabonimana a student at APPEC secondary school said that this training will help her fulfill her responsibilities as the head girl of the school because she binds students and school administration.

She says that she is going to change her way of leading her fellow students by paying much attention to students’ opinions and she is going to encourage her fellow students to know and uphold democracy and good governance.

Giving trainings about democracy and good governance through elections is the responsibility of NEC so to give the new elected levels how to govern well. In Kamonyi district youth, women, people with disabilities, teachers and students levels have been trained.
