    Musanze: NEC to sensitize youth on next year’s elections

    National Electoral Commission has held talks with youth in secondary schools and institutions from different districts of Northern Province in campaign on election awareness knowledge.

    The talks were held on March 7th 2012 with an aim of preparing Rwandese especially youth to take part in promoting social welfare and democracy through elections.

    Youth was empowered to sensitize their fellow youth, teachers and parents to participate in the election activities of 2013 member of parliament voting.

    Glorious Musekeweya, NEC representative in Musanze and Burera districts explains: “Youth is the strength of the nation, the future Rwanda. They are the ones to bring development of the nation.”

    The role of NEC is to organize and carry out election activities and to provide civic education to the youth as Musekeweya reveals.

    Clement Twizerimana, in charge of youth and sports in Musanze says “These talks are aimed at teaching us the culture of patriotism through democracy and social development of residents.”

    Epiphanie Nyiramatabaro, a senior five student at Remera secondary and participant confirms that youth do better when trained better.

    Nyiramatabaro adds that negative teachings led their fellow youth to participate in 1994 Tutsi genocide. She requests that these talks be given to them always because they help youth.

    126 students from Musanze that attended the training promised to sensitize other youth to check for their names on the election lists and to choose wisely who to vote.
