77 Police recruits graduate basic training
A team of 70 women and 7men recruits, members of the eighth intake at the Police Training School have graduated in Basic Police training, according to Rwanda National Police.
Following the accurate information from reliable body (Rwanda National Police) , the eighth intake marks the first time ever that women have outnumbered men as far as Police recruits are concerned.
While awarding the new Police officers the rank of Police Constable, the Minister of Internal Security Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana noted that the massive pass out of female Police officers shows the intent to bridge the gap between men and women in the Police force.
“The constitution calls for at least 30percent gender representation in all activities but given what I see here, we can even surpass the required percentage as the constitution does not bar us,†Minister Fazil stated.
The Minister pointed out that as a reformed Police force, Rwanda National Police is currently focusing on quality more than quantity given the changing nature of crimes that require Police officers qualified in other disciplines.
He said that recruiting graduates was important not only for our Police force but also regionally and internationally.
“You are on demand to serve in several United Nations missions where your predecessors have served and made the country proud,†Harelimana told the new Police graduates.
He however cautioned them to uphold discipline and work hard as it was the only way to progress in their profession.
He reminded Police officers that despite completing basic police training, capacity building continues noting that even senior Police officers were still undergoing capacity building.
On the other hand, Police Training School commandant, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bruce Munyambo urged the new Police officers to uphold what they have been taught as it will help them in their policing responsibilities.
