Police and District administration to fight against drugs
Gakenke district administration and local authorities with the police have come into terms to work together and fight against drugs since they are the basis for insecurities in Gakenke tow, an agreement reached in the security meeting  held in April.2012.
Among the 21 crimes committed in this district especially in Gakenke town in the month of March, a half of these crimes concern fighting, flogging and hurting people which was due to drugs especially local brew and marijuana.
CIP Gatera who heads Rwanda National Police (RNP) said that 97percent of crimes of fighting and flogging is done in bars under the influence of drugs while 3percent is due to family conflicts in married couples.
Crimes done in bars are mainly caused by too much drinking  and not respecting time a bar is meant to operate where they drink for a very long period and then fight.
In this partnership between RNP and local authorities bars that sell local brew and people who sell marijuana were warned and that if they are caught, will be arrested.
Apart from fighting and hurting each other, child abuse crime was the 2nd in this district and this partnership owed to uproot it.
The security meeting also discussed on miners and agreed that all people who want to mine natural resources will have certificates and be willing to protect environment.
They will have to dig holes to put in water sieve the minerals from so as not to contaminate the rivers and to have medical insurances of their employees. Those who will not fulfil these will be required to stop this business. Â
