Nyanza: Citizens praise public accountability day

On 13th December 2011, Nyanza district authority held its public accountability day to showcase the achievements registered and to unveil before the citizens next year’s development agenda.

Every three months, the district authority holds a public accountability day where all residents of the district, organizations and group associations that operate in the area meet to assess the achievements registered. During the open day, residents were given an opportunity to tour the district offices, look at the facilities, visit different departments, and have one-to-one conversations with department directors. Residents were briefed on how responsibilities affecting them in important ways are carried out.

Nkurikiyinka Joseph, 75 years, a resident of Gahondo village, Kamatovu cell, Busasamana Sector could not hold back his excitement after touring the district offices.

“In my life I had never entered into an administrative office, interact with officials and ask as many questions as possible. Long ago, no one could get close to a leader. We were very inferior to leaders which is not the case today”, narrates Nkurikiyinka.

He added saying that the reception he received from the Mayor’s office was more exciting than the one he receives at home.

Citizens were briefed on the district’s achievements in areas of justice, economy and social welfare. The district also commended the citizens for the continued support and involvement towards the district’s development agenda.
