Former Rwandan Prime Minister Celestin Rwigema wins seat in EALA
Ex-Rwandan Prime Minister Pierre Celestin Rwigema has this Friday 18th May 2012 won a seat among the nine people that Rwanda has to send to the East African Legislative Assembly to represent Rwanda.
The elections were conducted at the Parliamentary buildings this morning.
Eighteen candidates contested to represent RPF-Inkotanyi inthe East Africa Legislative assembly but only four of them were voted. The voted four include, Christopher Bazivamo,Abdul Karim Harelimana,Patricia Hajabakiga Mugorenejo and Pierre Clelestine Rwigema.
Odette Nyiramirimo who has been a deputy minister in the EALA was again voted to represent PL while Jacqueline Muhongayire won the seat to represent PSD.
Rwigema who has won the seat to represent Rwanda in EALA was the Prime minister in 1995-2000 , recently returned from 11 years exile in USA. After his arrival, he told journalists he will do whatever Rwandans would entrust him with.
On his return to his motherland Pierre-Celestin Rwigema stated that his return in the country, was not in any way influenced by any person or the government of Rwanda, but was motivated by the development that has been registered in the country.
Rwigema speaking to members of the Media on his arrival to Rwanda said that the reason he decided to flee the country in 2000 was because of unfounded rumors that he would be arrested.Since return,Rwigema has spent 7 months in the country.
