Nyamasheke: Residents urged to prevent disasters
On May 19th 2012 during the community work to prepare and fight against natural disasters, Honorable Marie Josée Kankera asked residents of Bushekeri sector to be safe than sorry.Â
Hon. Marie Josée Kankera, Deputy Speaker for the chamber of deputies, told residents that the fact that Nyamasheke district has not yet faced disasters doesn’t mean they have to sit and fight them after they happen.
Hon. Kankera advised the residents to fight soil erosion by terracing and digging water holes, but not wait only on community work days.
“Let’s work hard as we deal with the negative effects of disasters. Even if it’s not the end of the month, residents can clear near their fields when necessary.â€
Honorable Kankera thanked the community work participants for the turn up and great work that was done that day during community work.
Jean Baptiste Habyarimana, mayor for Nyamasheke district credited participants for showing willingness in fighting and preventing natural disasters.
During after work discussions, residents were asked to participate in all government programs and development activities.
